Could the Green Bay Packers make any unexpected moves before the 2023 season?

2. Sign veteran QB Teddy Bridgewater

I am once again asking the Green Bay Packers to upgrade their backup QB situation.

The Packers drafted Sean Clifford in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, a move that may or may not make a big difference in the 2023 NFL season for Green Bay. The other options on the Packers' roster right now are Danny Etling and the recently signed Alex McGough.

The Packers would be in a really bad spot if anything happened to Jordan Love. Love doesn't need to necessarily be "pushed" by a veteran, but it might not be a terrible idea to have a steady player like Teddy Bridgewater who could come in, execute the offense at a high level if need be, and provide another strong voice in the quarterback room.

Bridgewater has been a respected leader everywhere he goes, even if he's more of the "lead by example" variety. At this stage of his career, Bridgewater knows he's likely only getting looks as a backup and that's exactly what the Packers need. The former first-round pick of the Vikings isn't spectacular, but let's say something (knock on wood) does happen to Jordan Love...

Wouldn't you rather have Bridgewater on the roster than have to utilize one of these other young, inexperienced players? Many fans might say they'd rather the Packers just tank in the event that Jordan Love goes down, but it's not really about tanking. There are young receivers on this Packers roster that need to develop for whoever is going to be the QB, and the Packers need to have a capable player waiting in the wings if Love goes down to at least keep those receivers' development on track.
