5 unexpected free agent signings Packers could still make happen
5. Sign versatile LB Kyle Van Noy
Speaking of pass rushers, there's another one out there who maybe provides a more versatile option than guys like Justin Houston or Yannick Ngakoue, and it's former Detroit Lions second-round pick Kyle Van Noy.
Van Noy had just one sack in his first three seasons as a pro with the Detroit Lions before they traded him to the New England Patriots, where Bill Belichick immediately got the best out of him. Funny how that works, isn't it? Van Noy went from being a borderline NFL Draft bust (even as a second-round pick) to being a valuable piece of Belichick's defense, racking up 287 total tackles and 21.5 sacks in five seasons with the Patriots.
Over the last three seasons, in which he has played for the Chargers, Patriots, and Dolphins (under three highly respected defensive minds in Brandon Staley, Bill Belichick, and Brian Flores), Van Noy has averaged over 60 tackles, 9 QB hits, 6 sacks, 8 TFL, and 2 FF every 17 games played.
He's been productive, and he can line up almost anywhere.
At this point, Van Noy may not be a splashy signing but he's someone who could come in and do a lot of things for pretty much any defense. He can rush the passer, play in coverage, and play the run.
He's a smart football player that would be an upgrade to almost any roster around the league.
