The theme for the Green Bay Packers over the last couple of offseasons has been "out with the old, in with the new," and you can expect that to continue in the 2024 offseason.

General manager Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur have done a great job of building one of the youngest and most talented rosters in the entire league, but there are still some contracts that are holding this team back.

With another Jordan Love extension on the near horizon and other free agency decisions needing to be made, where could Gutekunst and LaFleur find some salary cap freedom and flexibility?

1. David Bakhtiari

There's no question about it—the number one contract currently holding the Green Bay Packers back is David Bakhtiari's deal. The Packers moved on from Davante Adams in 2022, Aaron Rodgers in 2023, and they appear poised to let go of another franchise staple here in 2024.

Bakhtiari's 2024 salary cap hit is a shade under $40 million. His base salary is just $10.7 million, so the Packers have kicked the can down the road as far as they possibly can. Now, instead of kicking the can down the road, they're at the proverbial fork in the road.

They can save almost $21 million against the salary cap by cutting Bakhtiari this offseason, which should be expected.
