David Bakhtiari reunion makes even more sense for Packers after concerning report

Rewind to April. The Green Bay Packers have just selected Jordan Morgan, a college left tackle who many believe will have to move inside at the NFL level.

The Packers insisted that Morgan could stay at tackle, but all signs are pointing toward him playing guard this season. That's fine, as Morgan can become a Pro Bowl-level interior lineman, but drafting him didn't solve the team's depth problem at tackle after losing David Bakhtiari and Yosh Nijman.

Fast forward to the present day. Beyond starters Rasheed Walker and Zach Tom, the Packers have an issue at the position. According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, there's a "feeling internally" with the Packers that their swing tackle isn't yet on the roster.

Wait, what? They have finally come to that conclusion after an entire offseason? Their solution was to draft a tackle who projects to play guard and to sign a veteran, Andre Dillard, who allowed a league-high 12 sacks in 2023.

They will turn to waivers, but good luck finding a consistent tackle who another team let go. The answer may be to bring back a player they know well.

Bringing back David Bakhtiari would solve Packers' concerns at tackle

Forget searching the waiver wire for a swing tackle. Go and sign a starter.

David Bakhtiari is still available and is working towards a return. Earlier this offseason, Bakhtiari said he wants to play with the "next Super Bowl MVP." One of the candidates happens to play quarterback for the Green Bay Packers.

The New York Jets' investment at offensive tackle almost certainly rules out a reunion with Aaron Rodgers, but Green Bay could have an opening.

Bringing back Bakhtiari would likely mean Rasheed Walker steps back into the swing tackle role, but he can cover both tackle positions. Bakhtiari is a five-time All-Pro and, when healthy, has shown no signs of decline. He has played 13 games since suffering a significant knee injury in 2020. According to PFF, he hasn't allowed a single sack or quarterback hit in that time.

Bakhtiari can help a contender win a Super Bowl, and the Packers would be smart to bring him home.

A return to Green Bay would make sense for Bakhtiari, too. He knows the system and has years of experience alongside Elgton Jenkins. He would also have a chance to make a deep playoff run as the Packers enter 2024 among the top contenders in the NFC.

If the Packers don't believe their swing tackle is currently on the roster, they have a real problem. Good luck finding a better alternative after roster cuts.

It's time to throw up the Bakh-Signal.
