Jaire Alexander reveals who he thinks is the Packers' best wide receiver
The Green Bay Packers have four wide receivers who could emerge as Jordan Love's top target this season.
Christian Watson is a game-changer and has unlimited upside—he just needs to stay healthy. Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks showed star potential in their rookie seasons.
Then there is Romeo Doubs, who has steadily improved throughout his two years in the league. The former fourth-round pick became a go-to target for Love, especially in the red zone, where they connected on all but one of his eight receiving touchdowns last year.
Doubs saved his best performance for the wild-card round with an all-time playoff performance. His 151 receiving yards were the third-most for a Packers player in the postseason. He also caught a touchdown.
Entering year three, Doubs is building on those performances, and he has caught the attention of All-Pro cornerback Jaire Alexander.
Jaire Alexander believes Romeo Doubs is second-best receiver in NFL
Alexander has covered some of the best receivers in the NFL over the past six seasons, including former teammate Davante Adams. Alexander believes Adams is the best receiver in the NFL, but at No. 2?
Doubs.
"He's a pro. He goes about it the right way," said Alexander. "He catches 100 balls and he catches more after practice. You can see he's a real pro. You can see his attention to detail is very on point."
Perhaps Alexander is showing some extra love to his teammate, but even if we forget about his "rankings," the key takeaway here is how highly he rates Doubs. The two have gone head-to-head regularly at training camp, and Doubs is making life difficult for the two-time All-Pro.
According to The Athletic's Matt Schneidman, Doubs and Alexander went one-on-one three times during Tuesday's practice. Afterward, Alexander asked for one more.
And Doubs isn't just impressing his Pro Bowl teammate but also reporters in attendance, including Andy Herman of the Pack-a-Day Podcast.
"If there is anyone that's starting to maybe garner a little bit of attention as maybe who's the guy within this wide receiver room, it might just be Romeo Doubs," said Herman. "His routes look fantastic. They are crisp. His hands look great—he's plucking everything out of the air."
Doubs has certainly shown consistency as one of Love's favorite receivers, especially with his ability to win contested catches. He is now entering his third year, which is when Davante Adams had his breakout season.
The Packers might not have a "true WR1." They didn't last year, spreading the ball around. It will likely be a similar story in 2024.
But Doubs is a player to watch. The way he's playing at training camp is a potential sign of a breakout season coming soon.
