Jordan Love goes full Brett Favre to inexcusably gift Rams a touchdown
What a wild game. We've seen the absolute best from Jordan Love, but now the worst.
In the first quarter of the Green Bay Packers' game against the Los Angeles Rams, Love made arguably the best throw of his career on an impossible 53-yard connection with Jayden Reed. It set up a Packers touchdown. Unfortunately, he followed it with an inexcusable error for the first pick-six of his career.
Love faced immediate pressure from Rams defender Byron Young, with nobody picking up the free rusher. That part wasn't Love's fault, but everything else was. Love rolled out to his right but hesitated, allowing Young to catch him for a certain safety.
Attempting to avoid it, Love rolled the dice by slinging the ball out of the end zone, where Jaylen McCollough was waiting for the interception and pick-six. Love's error turned two points into six for the Rams.
It was a full-on Favre moment from the Packers quarterback.
Another wild Jordan Love interception is cause for concern
Love has to stop taking chances like this. It was a similar story in last week's three-interception performance against the Minnesota Vikings when he launched a deep pass to Dontayvion Wicks for no apparent reason. You can't take risks like that.
He could've attempted to throw it out of bounds—maybe he did. But it was the type of mistake you would expect from a rookie quarterback, not a fifth-year veteran in his second season as the starter.
Ever since Love wore Favre's No. 4 jersey last week, he has started making plays like him—the good and the bad.
In the first half of this game, Love has thrown arguably the best and worst passes of his career. One set up a Packers touchdown, but the other gifted the Rams a pick-six.
Since his return from a sprained MCL, Love has thrown four touchdowns and four interceptions. He is still making plays but has become far too careless with the football. During Green Bay's 6-2 stretch at the backend of last season, Love threw one pick. Just one. He has four in the past six quarters of football.
He is too willing to play hero ball and take Favre-like risks. The playmaking is there, but Love's careless turnovers are becoming a problem.
