Jordan Love provides an update on his status for potential Week 3 return
Only two weeks after suffering a sprained MCL in the Green Bay Packers' season opener, Jordan Love is aiming to make his return.
Love returned to practice as a limited participant on Wednesday, a promising step in his recovery. It's an encouraging update, but the Packers haven't cleared him to play this weekend—yet. That could change in the days ahead.
Even if Love isn't back on the field for Sunday's matchup against the Tennessee Titans, it's clear his return isn't far away. The Packers believed Love had a chance to play in last week's win over the Indianapolis Colts, initially giving him a questionable designation before downgrading his status to doubtful.
Malik Willis is preparing to start, but as things stand, the Packers don't know who their QB1 will be in Tennessee. Love provided an update after practice.
Jordan Love is 'hopeful' he can return for Packers' game with Titans in Week 3
Following his return to practice on Wednesday, Love gave an update to reporters.
"I'm going to take the week and just take it day by day and see how it feels," said Love. "I'm not going to make any decisions right now. I'm hopeful that I can get to that point where I can get in there, but we're just going to take it day by day and see."
Love said he is feeling a lot better, and based on limited video from practice, it looked like he was moving comfortably. It's hard to believe it is less than two weeks from when he suffered the injury. Love moved well.
The Packers have to determine whether Love is mobile enough to escape pressure and avoid taking big hits. He also needs to feel comfortable, and the medical staff won't put him in danger of suffering a more significant injury. If he can clear those hurdles and feels ready to return, Love could start in Week 3. But it remains a big if.
Green Bay is also dealing with injuries along the offensive line, which further complicates things. Rasheed Walker, Zach Tom, Elgton Jenkins, Josh Myers, and Jordan Morgan are on the Week 3 injury report. The last thing the Packers need is a less-than-100-percent Love playing behind an offensive line missing multiple starters.
Love may play in Week 3. He may not. The most important thing is that he is making good progress, feels a lot better, and is nearing a return.
