Jordan Love winning MVP next season just became even more possible
By Ryan Heckman
What Jordan Love did last year, for the Green Bay Packers, was nothing short of extraordinary. Having some massive shoes to fill the year after Aaron Rodgers left town, it was Love's show.
And, the year didn't start exactly how he would have liked. But, Love and the offense got things rolling in the second half en route to a playoff berth and even a postseason win over the Dallas Cowboys. Now, they're entering Year 2 with Love under center and are feeling even more confident, especially because of their diversely-talented skill group.
With Love having a year under his belt, expectations are high. How high? Well, if you ask the experts out in Vegas, Love is entering the top four in terms of MVP odds for the upcoming season.
Top 4 NFL MVP odds, quarterbacks only:

What would it take for Jordan Love to win NFL MVP this coming season?
Down the stretch last season, there was not a better quarterback in football, TD/INT ratio-wise, than Love. He posted 18 touchdowns to just a single interception in the Packers' final 8 games. Now, the odds of Love continuing at that pace going into the 2024 season are admittedly low. But, even if he regressed a little bit, let's imagine what this coming season could look like.
How about we give him an 8-game stretch of 16 touchdowns and 5 interceptions? If that was the case, Love could end the coming season with 34 passing touchdowns and 10 picks. Add in a little action on the ground, maybe 250 yards and three or four scores... and he's accounted for well over 4,300 yards and nearly 40 total touchdowns.
If the Packers come home with a division title and Love performs like that? Shoot, you might as well hand him the MVP trophy. After Rodgers left, who would have predicted such a season just two years later?
Now, let's take a look at the rest of Love's divisional competition just for the fun of it.
Player | MVP odds |
---|---|
Jordan Love | +1400 |
Jared Goff | +2200 |
Caleb Williams | +5000 |
Sam Darnold | +20000 |
Realistically, only three of the four NFC North quarterbacks are worth talking about, here. Love obviously has some of the better odds, but don't count out Jared Goff, coming off a massive extension and an NFC Championship Game appearance. Should the Lions somehow win the division, again, Goff might just be the reason why.
And over in Chicago, it's anyone's guess just how quickly Caleb Williams will come along. Could he shock the world and enter the MVP discussion? It would be highly unforeseeable, but you never know. If you'd ask Packer fans, they'd probably laugh and tell you "the Bears will screw this up like always."
