Four days into training camp, Jordan Love hasn't practiced and still doesn't have a new contract. So, what's going on?

We've heard all summer that the Green Bay Packers and Love want the same thing and are working toward an extension. General manager Brian Gutekunst said all the way back in March that discussions had started. The Packers could officially sign Love to an extension in early May, but more than two months later, we're still waiting.

The longer it goes, the worse things get for the Packers. It has a ripple effect on the entire roster.

Love misses out on valuable reps with his teammates, and the receivers lose opportunities to work on timing and chemistry with their quarterback. The defense has dominated on the practice field, but it hurts their preparations for the regular season if they are only facing backup quarterbacks.

We keep hearing that the mood is positive in 1265 Lombardi Ave, but what's the latest?

Everything we know about Jordan Love's contract negotiations with Packers

The Athletic's Dianna Russini reports the Packers and Love are "making progress" and nearing a deal, but it is "not done at this time."

A report from ProFootballTalk came to a similar conclusion.

So, what's the holdup? Jori Epstein or Yahoo Sports provided some insight.

"But to close this quickly, the Packers will likely need to at least pony up the equivalent of Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence's contract, per a person with knowledge of the negotiations," writes Epstein.

Epstein added that there is still optimism "that a deal will get done soon."

Meanwhile, Love's team doesn't want him to practice without a new deal because the possibility of suffering an injury is "too risky." That's a fair stance to take from Love's side.

It's frustrating. It's not like the Packers and Love's team haven't had time. They've had all offseason.

Did they not expect Trevor Lawrence to sign a deal worth $55 million annually? Are they not willing to pay more? Something is holding things up despite the optimism.

The good news is that all reports indicate something will happen soon, but we've been hearing that all summer. Until the ink is dried on the contract, the concern only increases.
