Matt LaFleur trade proposal will have Packers fans in hysteria
By Ryan Heckman
Since the Green Bay Packers hired Matt LaFleur to be their head coach, he has gone 58-28 and become one of the best in the business at his position. By now, it's pretty clear that he wasn't succeeding, early on, just because of a guy by the name of Aaron Rodgers.
Last year, LaFleur helped Jordan Love fully break out and look like like yet another franchise passer for this organization. But, over the last two weeks, LaFleur has had another test.
With Love sidelined due to an MCL injury, he's seen backup Malik Willis under center for this offense. And, Willis is still new to the organization after having been traded for just a few weeks ago.
Yet, Willis has looked excellent and LaFleur has cooked up some solid game plans for the young quarterback.
Meanwhile, another organization is struggling with their former no. 1 overall pick -- no, not the Chicago Bears (that's another story).
The Jacksonville Jaguars are having a rough go over the past year or so. Once leading the division in 2023, the Jags fell flat on their face and missed the postseason. Now, they've started 0-3 to begin the 2024 season and rumors are swirling that Doug Pederson is going to get the boot.
If the Jaguars fired Pederson, one option for them could be to call another team and make a steep offer to trade for their head coach.

Enter: LaFleur and Green Bay.
On a recent podcast episode, NFL analyst Conor Orr and insider Albert Breer discussed the idea of Jacksonville trading for LaFleur, but noted that it would cost even more than what the Las Vegas Raiders once gave up for former head coach Jon Gruden.
The Packers would demand the most-ever in a trade for head coach Matt LaFleur
"Let's say the Jaguars called Green Bay tomorrow and said, 'what can we give you for Matt LaFleur?'" Orr said.
He noted the Bucs received two first rounders, two second rounders and $8 million in exchange for Gruden once upon a time. Orr responded as if he were the Packers:
"Buddy, you gotta one-up the Bucs. Three first-round picks, three second-round picks, $16 million."
"I kind of think I would," Breer said, answering as though he was the Jaguars organization.
First of all, this is an obvious slam-dunk for Jacksonville. Of course they would agree to a trade like this. In a league where it's hit-or-miss when hiring a new head coach, the Jaguars would be getting a guarantee, and LaFleur would get his hands on Trevor Lawrence, whom he could certainly help develop even further.
Second though, and most importantly, the Packers shouldn't even pick up the phone. If they received any indication that the Jaguars wanted LaFleur, there should be absolutely no reason to even discuss such a deal.
This organization has a great thing going with a quarterback now signed long-term and a head coach who knows his quarterback well. Why on earth would Green Bay even think of accepting such a deal, let alone entertain it to begin with?
Zero shot, folks. Zero shot.
But, hey, it's fun for these two to talk about, I suppose.
