Michael Pratt is running away with Packers backup QB job after incredible touchdown
Michael Pratt has outplayed Sean Clifford all summer.
He is doing it again in the Green Bay Packers' preseason finale against the Baltimore Ravens, and there's no doubt he should be the backup quarterback.
Matt LaFleur is splitting the reps between the two quarterbacks, giving them two series at a time.
Clifford made the worst possible start, going 1/7 for 13 yards with a 39.6 rating on the Packers' opening two possessions. In came Pratt, who went 6/8 for 67 yards and a touchdown with a 139.1 rating with his first opportunity.
The gap between the two is widening, and Pratt's beautiful touchdown pass to Bo Melton highlights this.
Michael Pratt makes a statement with highlight-reel TD pass in Packers preseason
Hang it in the Louvre. Pratt has been making wow plays all summer long, and he saved one of his best for an 18-yard touchdown connection with Bo Melton.
According to Next Gen Stats (via ESPN's Rob Demovsky), Melton only gained one yard of separation on his route, but Pratt placed the ball perfectly for him to make the play.
It was a statement pass from Pratt, who may have pulled comfortably ahead in the backup quarterback race. At the very least, he should've secured a spot on the 53-man roster.
Pratt earned second-team reps during the Packers' joint practice with the Ravens earlier this week. Like he has in this game, the seventh-round rookie made the most of his opportunity. He continues to stack success in the preseason.
The competition isn't over yet, and the Packers clearly like Clifford, but it's hard to deny that Pratt has outperformed Clifford this summer, and the gap between the two is only widening in the preseason finale.
Pratt should win the Packers' backup quarterback job. Will he? Only time will tell.
