The Green Bay Packers are headed to Brazil to open their 2024 season. The NFL has announced they will take on the Philadelphia Eagles on the opening Friday night of the regular season in the first-ever game played in São Paulo, Brazil.

Jordan Love will face Jalen Hurts in a fascinating matchup in the second game of the regular season, which will be played on Friday, September 6.

"We're looking forward to being a part of this historic matchup against the Eagles in São Paulo," said Packers president Mark Murphy, per Packers.com. "We're excited to play in front of our devoted fans in Brazil and help build upon the international popularity of the NFL and the Packers. We had a great experience playing internationally for the first time a couple of years ago and we're proud to be part of the league's continued global growth."

When is Packers vs. Eagles Week 1 game in Brazil?

  • Date: Friday, Sept. 6, 2024
  • Kickoff: TBD
  • Location: Arena Corinthians, São Paulo

The Packers and Eagles will meet on a Friday evening, a day after the NFL opener featuring the Kansas City Chiefs. It should be a fascinating primetime matchup.

The Eagles are the designated home team, so the Packers won't have to give up one of their nine games at Lambeau Field this season. Green Bay only plays seven true "road" games. While the Brazil matchup will require long travel, it affects both teams and takes away Philadelphia's home-field advantage.

The Packers have long been considered one of the favorites to play in this game, although team president Mark Murphy threw cold water on the idea at the league's annual meetings. Murphy was worried that the Packers would be put at a "competitive disadvantage" due to the size of their airport impacting international travel.

However, it would seem the issue has been resolved or the league doesn't care. Either way, we're set for a fascinating international battle between the Packers and Eagles.

Packers' popularity in Brazil leads to NFL International Series game

There's a reason why the NFL wanted to bring the Packers to Brazil. Not only are we talking about one of the league's most historic franchises, but the Packers have a huge fan base there.

Now, the NFL fans in Brazil get to see the Jordan Love-led Packers in their opening game of the season.

It is Green Bay's second international game in three seasons, having "hosted" the New York Giants at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London in 2022. The benefit this time is not having to give up one of their home games.

While travel may be an issue for the Packers, the benefit is they don't have to play a road game in Philadelphia. A neutral venue takes away the Eagles' home-field advantage. With the Packers' popularity in Brazil, it could actually work in their favor.
