NFL insider thinks blockbuster Davante Adams trade is a 'done deal'
The Green Bay Packers were the clear winners of the Davante Adams trade. They successfully rebuilt their receiving corps, while Adams has had to deal with an uncertain quarterback situation during his time with the Las Vegas Raiders.
But could Adams move elsewhere this summer?
Earlier this offseason, Adams said he has no regrets over his decision to leave Green Bay. In hindsight, the best move was to remain with the Packers and play alongside Jordan Love.
However, a reunion with Aaron Rodgers may be more realistic than we once thought.
Dan Orlovsky believes Davante Adams 'plays for the Jets this season'
The Raiders still need a quarterback and likely won't compete for a Super Bowl anytime soon. The Jets could, and ESPN's Dan Orlovsky sounded confident they will trade for Adams.
"I think Davante Adams plays for the Jets this season," said Orlovsky on ESPN's Get Up. "I think this is a done deal. At some point, Davante Adams plays for the Jets this season."
"One, the Raiders don't matter until they get a quarterback. I don't care what anybody says," said Orlovsky. "Number two, if you're the Jets, why would you not? You haven't won a Super Bowl ever, or in like 50 years or something like that. You've already gone all-in. You have to make this work. If you don't win the Super Bowl, this is going to be one of the more disappointing acquisitions and runs and wasted talented teams that we've seen in the NFL in many years."
He's not wrong. It would make all the sense in the world for Adams and the Jets. Yes, they would have to pay a premium price and take on his contract, but as Orlovsky says, they have already gone all-in. Trading for Rodgers and building a veteran team around him is the same approach the Tampa Bay Buccaneers took with Tom Brady and the Denver Broncos with Peyton Manning.
Their Super Bowl window is open this year, but possibly not beyond that. Perhaps one more season, but maybe not. Adding Adams to an offense with Garrett Wilson, Mike Williams, an outstanding run game, and an improved offensive line could take the Jets to the next level.
The Raiders won't want to give up on their star receiver, but for the right price, why wouldn't they take the draft capital and rebuild?
There's close to a zero percent chance Adams will return to the Packers. The team has rebuilt its receiving corps and is in a different position to the Jets. Green Bay is building for the future around a talented young team. Its championship window is just opening.
But a reunion with Rodgers in New York makes a ton of sense.
And who knows, it could lead to Rodgers and Adams clashing with the Packers in the Super Bowl. It would be an incredible story.
