Packers 2025 mock draft after Week 2: Green Bay lands perfect Quay Walker replacement
Jeff Hafley's defense showed off its potential in Week 2, forcing three turnovers while limiting the Indianapolis Colts to 10 points. The Green Bay Packers needed a flawless performance from Hafley's unit to help cover for Jordan Love's absence, and they delivered.
However, it wasn't a perfect afternoon.
Quay Walker's poor start to the season continued against the Colts. Per PFF, he missed two tackles while allowing four completions on five targets for 53 yards. Walker made one pressure that led to an interception, but his coverage is becoming a problem.
Despite investing two Day 2 picks at linebacker this past offseason, the Packers may need to target the position again in 2025.
Packers replace Quay Walker in 2025 NFL mock draft after Week 2
Round 1 (21): Denzel Burke, CB, Ohio State
Before addressing the linebacker position, the Packers focus on another potential need. Eric Stokes' contract is up at the end of the year, and he surprisingly lost snaps to Carrington Valentine in Week 2. Stokes has an uncertain future beyond this season.
The Packers may need to target a cornerback early in the draft, and Ohio State's Denzel Burke could interest them. Burke earned first-team All-Big Ten honors in 2023 and has made a fast start to the new season. Per PFF, he has allowed just one reception on three targets for 19 yards, while also making an interception.
"With versatility across man and zone coverage, sharp processing, and playmaking ability on the ball and in support, Burke can be a quality starter early in his NFL career, with impact starter upside," writes Ian Cummings of Pro Football Network.
With Stokes' future in Green Bay uncertain, the Packers may need to target a cornerback. Burke could make an instant impact.
Round 2 (53): Jalon Walker, LB, Georgia
The Packers replace Quay Walker with... another Georgia linebacker called Walker.
Jalon Walker offers a ton of versatility, as he can line up in the middle of the field or rush the passer off the edge. He does both for the Bulldogs and already has 1.5 sacks in three games this season. According to PFF, he made eight pressures last week. Hafley could move him around and ask him to cover, blitz, and play as an edge rusher.
"Walker gets into the backfield as if he were shot out of a cannon, and his bend and explosion off the edge help him beat blockers and get to the quarterback or ball carrier," writes ESPN's Mel Kiper. "His sideline-to-sideline speed gets your attention when you watch the tape."
It wouldn't matter where Hafley had him line up, Walker would be a game-changing addition to the Packers' defense.
Round 3 (85): Devin Neal, RB, Kansas
Running back isn't a significant need after signing Josh Jacobs and drafting MarShawn Lloyd, especially with Emanuel Wilson making an impressive start to the season. But with AJ Dillon facing an uncertain future, the Packers could add more depth on Day 2 of the draft.
With his vision and speed, Devin Neal could become a big-play machine in Matt LaFleur's offense, both as a runner and receiver. He is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons at Kansas and has 47 catches for 433 yards and two touchdowns since the start of 2022.
Alongside Jacobs, Lloyd, and Wilson, the Packers would have arguably the deepest backfield in football.
