It's always concerning when a player leaves practice early with the medical staff, especially when it's a first-round pick.

Offensive lineman Jordan Morgan suffered an injury during Tuesday's practice and didn't return. Morgan has made an encouraging start to training camp, predominantly playing at right guard, and the Packers can't afford to lose him for long.

Fortunately, head coach Matt LaFleur eased those fears with his latest update.

Packers first-round pick Jordan Morgan to miss 'a week or so' due to injury

The Packers don't have to provide an official injury report until the regular season, so LaFleur is often vague with details. However, he did give an update on Morgan's injury.

"He had a shoulder," said LaFleur. "It's nothing long-term, but he's going to be out probably for a week or so."

The final part is key. It's nothing long-term. Green Bay's first-round pick likely won't play in this week's preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns, but it sounds like he has a chance to return for the final two exhibition contests.

Most importantly, Morgan should return in time for the Packers' season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil. He could get the start at right guard ahead of Sean Rhyan.

Practice reps are important, especially for rookies, so the Packers won't want to be without Morgan for long. He has made a good start to camp and may have already secured a starting spot along the offensive line. The Packers couldn't have hoped for much more in his first training camp.

Injuries are beginning to pile up for Green Bay, but fortunately, most are short-term issues. Edgerrin Cooper, Jayden Reed, Carrington Valentine, and Kingsley Enagbare are among the players dealing with injuries.

Hopefully, Morgan will return to practice next week and make his preseason debut against the Denver Broncos on August 18.
