Packers have avoided disaster with Jordan Love injury update
The Green Bay Packers feared the worst when Jordan Love had to be helped off the field at Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Love suffered an awkward-looking knee injury and was in a lot of pain. The team had to wait until they returned to Green Bay to undergo additional testing on Love's knee, and the results were about as positive as they could've hoped for.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Love has avoided a significant injury. He suffered an MCL sprain but, crucially, no ACL damage.
Jordan Love injury update is the best-case scenario for Packers
According to Rapoport, Love "should miss some time," which is undoubtedly a concern after the Packers lost their season opener. However, it's the best-case scenario by a mile. It could've been so much worse.
How much time will he miss? Well, that remains to be seen. Every injury is different, but for some perspective, Aaron Jones suffered multiple MCL sprains during his Packers career and typically missed two to four games. For a quarterback, hopefully Love can return sooner.
Can the Packers keep the win column ticking over while he's out? Here are their next four games:
Week | Opponent |
---|---|
2 | vs. Colts |
3 | at Titans |
4 | vs. Vikings |
5 | at Rams |
Malik Willis entered the game following Love's injury, and he is now in line to start for the Packers over the next few games. Green Bay could explore other options or even promote Sean Clifford from the practice squad, considering his familiarity with the offense.
The most important takeaway is that Love isn't facing a significant period on the sidelines. An ACL tear would've ended his season and required a lengthy recovery process that could've limited his offseason workouts. Fortunately, he has avoided that.
The hope is that Love misses minimal time and can play through the injury if needed. That's a question for Matt LaFleur in the days ahead.
For now, we can take a deep breath and exhale. All things considered, this is the best-case scenario for the Packers.
