4 Packers draft picks who may be playing their last game vs. Ravens
The Green Bay Packers have reached the final stop before roster cutdown day. Players on the roster bubble have one last opportunity to impress the coaching staff and make their case for a spot on the 53-man roster.
It's unclear whether the Packers' starters will feature in the preseason finale against the Baltimore Ravens. Regardless, the spotlight will shine brightly on the remaining unsettled positional battles, including backup quarterback and kicker.
Time is ticking for the Packers to determine the winners. They have tough choices to make.
Many talented players won't make the 53-man roster, and that could include several former draft picks.
Packers draft picks playing for their jobs in preseason finale vs. Ravens
Sean Clifford and Michael Pratt, QB
The backup quarterback battle comes down to the final preseason game. Sean Clifford has taken the majority of the second-team snaps this summer, but Michael Pratt may have finally edged ahead of him on the depth chart during Thursday's joint practice with the Ravens.
Pratt has shown higher upside at camp, but Clifford has a year of experience in the offense. Both quarterbacks need to perform significantly better than last week's preseason humiliation in Denver. Neither could lead the offense to points.
It's the battle of 2023 fifth-round pick Clifford against 2024 seventh-rounder Pratt. One of them will back up Jordan Love, and the other may not even make the roster.
Kalen King, CB
Kalen King has made plenty of impressive plays throughout training camp, but the Packers may not have room for him on the 53-man roster. King is likely a slot-only corner in Jeff Hafley's system, but with Keisean Nixon and Javon Bullard getting snaps ahead of him, it seems increasingly unlikely he won't make the initial roster.
The moments have been there, including a pick-six of Jordan Love in practice. However, King has lacked consistency, which is understandable for a seventh-round rookie. He didn't help his chances in last week's preseason contest. Per Pro Football Focus, he missed two tackles and earned an overall defensive grade of 47.2.
King needs to make an impact against the Ravens.
Royce Newman, OL
Actions speak louder than words, and the Packers' decision to keep Royce Newman in the game deep into the fourth quarter last week tells us a lot. Even worse, he struggled against the Broncos' backups late in the game.
Elgton Jenkins and Jordan Morgan are the Packers' projected starting guards, with Sean Rhyan as the main backup. Rookie Jacob Monk appears to have moved ahead of Newman on the depth chart, which may have cost him a roster spot.
