It was always going to happen.

The Chicago Bears talked a great game in the offseason. They always do.

And the national media bought in. It's understandable to love the Caleb Williams selection or the decision to add Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze, but it's genuinely surprising how little criticism they received for drafting a punter in the fourth round, especially when they only had five selections in total.

Green Bay Packers fans have seen this movie play out a million times. The Bears hung another "offseason champs" banner at Soldier Field in April, while fans claimed they had the best quarterback in the NFC North.

Williams made his highly-anticipated debut in Week 1, and it was about as underwhelming as possibly imaginable. The first-overall pick completed 48.3 percent of his passes for 93 yards—that's it. No touchdowns. Not even 100 yards.

It makes his bold preseason prediction even funnier for Packers fans.

Caleb Williams' wrong Bears prediction is comedy gold for Packers fans

Chicago may have won its opening game, but Williams owes a huge thank you to his defense and special teams, who combined for the team's only two touchdowns. The Williams-led offense managed just 148 yards and nine points, all from field goals.

After the Bears drafted punter Tory Taylor in the fourth round, Williams sent him a text that read, "Hey, you're not going to punt too much here."

Spoiler: In Week 1, he had to punt. A lot.

In fact, only three teams punted more times than the Bears. Taylor booted six punts on the afternoon for a healthy 45.0 average, landing three inside the 20-yard line. Even in defeat, Packers punter Daniel Whelan had a far easier evening in Week 1, punting just twice in Brazil.

Williams and the Bears' offense will undoubtedly improve, and he showed some signs of his incredible talent in Week 1. But his disappointing performance proved that nothing is guaranteed. Many Bears fans expected everything to click instantly while also laughing any time Jordan Love and the Packers' young offense make rookie mistakes.

The pressure is on in Week 2, despite the Bears making a comeback win against the Tennessee Titans. Chicago hits the road to take on C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans, and it's in primetime.

Once considered a battle of two of the league's best young quarterbacks, it could now become a matchup between Stroud and the Bears' punter.
