Round 3: Packers trade for Greg Newsome

Greg Newsome trade

Just like in round two, the Packers have a pair of selections in round three, both of them in the later portion of the round. We just saw the Tennessee Titans acquire L'Jarius Sneed from the Kansas City Chiefs for the shockingly low price of a 2025 third-round pick and a 2024 late-round pick exchange.

Not that every cornerback trade is going to be a one-for-one value match, but if Greg Newsome of the Cleveland Browns is available for something comparable, that would be another no-brainer for the Packers. Newsome was a first-round pick by the Browns, but they've seen the development of Martin Emerson at the outside cornerback position, and Newsome is feeling like his wings have been clipped just playing in the slot.

In Green Bay, he could play on the outside full-time and Jeff Hafley could figure out what to do with personnel, or he could stay in the slot and the Packers could pay him the long-term deal he wants.

Either way, everyone knows the Packers need to add corners in this draft with Eric Stokes struggling so bad over the last two years with injury. Newsome is a quality player who could upgrade Green Bay's defense immediately, and it might not cost them much on the trade market.
