Packers 4-round mock draft after latest major free agency moves
Round 2 (41): Kingsley Suamataia, OT, BYU
After finally letting go of David Bakhtiari, the Green Bay Packers are moving on at the offensive tackle position. And even with the salary cap implications of keeping him, I don't think you let go of a player like Bakhtiari outright if you don't feel good about your alternative options.
The Packers got a really good look this past year at Rasheed Walker at left tackle with Zach Tom at right tackle, and there seems to be confidence that duo can continue to work going forward. But the team can't afford to take any risks there with Jordan Love needing the best protection possible.
And after signing a running back to a $48 million deal in free agency, the offensive line needs to be an absolute strength of this team. Kingsley Suamataia can play either right or left tackle and would give the Packers a legitimate starting option during his rookie year.
Even if they would end up going with someone like Walker at left tackle or Tom at right tackle instead, Suamataia gives them necessary options. The Packers need to take advantage of this great offensive tackle class and make sure they don't go into 2024 with too much confidence in those young players that they decide to just pass on top-tier talent.
When you have this many picks in the top 100, you've got to make sure you take some shots on premium position groups. And if Suamataia has positional versatility, he will certainly catch Brian Gutekunst's eye.
