Jordan Love's absence from practice won't last long, with a new multi-year deal likely on the way this week. In the meantime, it left the Green Bay Packers with only two quarterbacks.

Sean Clifford and Michael Pratt can handle the majority of the reps while Love sits out, but the Packers needed to add another arm.

According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, the Packers have signed former fourth-round pick Jacob Eason. Coincidentally, Eason was part of the same draft class as Love.

To make room for Eason, the Packers released long snapper Peter Bowden.

Jacob Eason signing is nothing to worry about regarding Jordan Love contract

Demovsky added that the Eason signing has no bearing on the Packers' negotiations with Love. They just needed to add a third quarterback to cover while he is absent. Once Love signs a new deal, he will take back the reins as the QB1 in practice, with Clifford and Pratt providing backup.

Eason was in Green Bay for a tryout at rookie minicamp earlier this offseason, so it's clear he has been on the team's radar.

The former fourth-round pick has spent time with a handful of NFL teams but has only thrown 10 passes in the regular season. With the Indianapolis Colts, he completed two of five passes for 25 yards and one interception. A year later, he threw for 59 yards and one interception with the Carolina Panthers.

Eason has the opportunity to get some valuable practice reps with the Packers, although his time in Green Bay may only last a few days until Love signs a new deal.

Packers fans don't have anything to worry about regarding Love's future. The deal should happen this week, and the Eason signing was made to provide cover in the meantime.
