Proposed Packers-Davante Adams trade would crush Aaron Rodgers' soul

Not to say it'll happen, but the Packers should throw their name into the hat.

What a wild past few days it's been for former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams.

First, a hamstring injury just so happened to pop up for Adams last Thursday which forced him to miss Week 4 for the Las Vegas Raiders. However, trade speculation started to pick up on Sunday evening and pretty soon, it was made known that his head coach, Antonio Pierce, went out and "liked" a social media post which speculated whether Adams had played his last game with the team.

And just like that, the spark turned to fire.

Tuesday, Adams officially requested a trade out of Las Vegas and the Raiders started the process of communicating with other teams, even setting the starting point for a potential deal. The Raiders would like a second-round pick to be the centerpiece, with other compensation likely added.

Since the news of the trade request broke, the top destination has seemingly been to reunite with his former quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, on the New York Jets. The majority of betting outlets have the Jets as the best odds to land Adams, and it makes sense.

However, why wouldn't the Packers decide to throw their name into the hat and bring Adams back to Green Bay?

In doing so, they would not only get their established alpha wide receiver but also completely crush the hopes and dreams of Rodgers now obviously wanting his old buddy back. There's many reasons why Adams makes sense with the Jets, but none greater than the connection he has with Rodgers.

And, the Packers are a team that should be considered a contender now that Jordan Love is on his way back to full health. This offense has a variety of talented wideouts, but would benefit from a legitimate WR1 next to guys like Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks.

This Davante Adams trade package is exactly what the Raiders could be looking for

Notice the name Christian Watson is not in the above scenario, and that's because the Packers would include him in a deal for Adams.

It would look something like this, and the Raiders might have a hard time refusing it.

Not only would Vegas get their second rounder, but they'd also receive Watson back in the deal. For the Packers, the ship has almost sailed on Watson panning out. They've continued to wait through all of his injury issues, and now are dealing with yet another.

The Raiders, meanwhile, could take a flier on someone like Watson who was once a promising prospect with a rare blend of size and speed. They'd just hope he is able to get past all the injury woes for things to truly work out.

The Packers now have Adams back with a guy he's previously known in addition to Rodgers, of course, with Love having backed up the future Hall of Famer prior to gaining the starting gig. There's definitely some connection between the two, no doubt.

Once again, this move sees Green Bay get a significant piece the offense might just need, while putting the blockers up for Rodgers.

That's a win-win, folks.
