Surprising Davante Adams trade destination could ruin Aaron Rodgers' dream reunion
It feels like it's when, not if, Davante Adams gets traded. The former Green Bay Packers All-Pro has reportedly requested a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders.
While the chances of a Packers reunion are slim to none, the most obvious destination is the New York Jets, where he would reconnect with Aaron Rodgers. While it would be strange watching the Rodgers-to-Adams connection elsewhere, it could be so much worse from a Packers' perspective, believe me.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, two teams are high on Adams' wishlist. Fortunately, the Detroit Lions aren't one of them.
Of course, the Jets are one, but the other? The New Orleans Saints.
Saints could ruin Aaron Rodgers' reunion with Davante Adams
Adams wants to play with his two favorite quarterbacks. He got his wish in 2022 when he left the Packers for a chance to reunite with college quarterback Derek Carr. It quickly became a disaster, with Carr getting benched and replaced after one season.
While the connection is obvious, it's somewhat surprising he would consider the Saints. Are they realistic Super Bowl contenders? It's doubtful.
Working in New York's favor is the salary cap situation. New Orleans has the NFL's second-lowest total. However, if one team doesn't seem to care about pushing money into future years, it's the Saints.
It will take a lot for a team to get a deal over the line with the Raiders. Along with the financial aspect, there's also the compensation. Las Vegas won't want to give up its star receiver for nothing, but Adams is dealing with a hamstring injury and turns 32 in December. He is still one of the best in the league, but the Raiders are unlikely to get anything close to the first- and second-round picks they sent to the Packers in 2022.
Rodgers' hopes of a reunion remain alive, but Adams' interest in reuniting with Carr could have an impact.
As long as it's not the Lions...
