Top 30 free agents the Packers should target in 2024
Mike Hoecht, DL, Rams
Michael Hoecht has quietly been a really nice developmental player for the LA Rams over the last couple of seasons.
He's got 9.5 sacks, 19 QB hits, and 10 tackles for loss over the last two seasons, and listed at 6-foot-4, 310 pounds, this is a big dude with bad intentions. The Packers don't necessarily need to dip into the free-agent market on the defensive line for higher-priced guys, but if you can find a budget-friendly player (which Hoecht may not end up being), these types of players are always worthwhile.
He's shown versatility to play on the defensive line, off the edge, and the Rams have even put him in coverage, though I'm not sure that's really where you want him.
Sebastian Joseph-Day, DL, 49ers
The Los Angeles Chargers signed Sebastian Joseph-Day in 2022, thanks to his connection with head coach Brandon Staley from their time together with the Rams. When Staley was let go by the Chargers, the organization also decided to let Joseph-Day hit the road and sign with a contending team.
Which he did. Joseph-Day signed on with the San Francisco 49ers and their absurdly talented and loaded defensive front. He gave the Chargers 11 QB hits and 3.0 sacks this season and has proven to be a good player against the run in the past. He had nine tackles for loss in 2022.
I think if the price is right, this could be a great pickup for the Packers in free agency.
