Why are the Packers wearing white jerseys at home vs. Ravens in preseason?
It's the return of Green Bay Packers football at Lambeau Field, and the team is wearing... their road jerseys?
Yes. Don't adjust your monitors. The Packers are indeed wearing their white road jerseys in their one and only home game of the preseason. They had previously worn their home uniforms in their previous two road matchups, so this continues the unusual trend.
The Packers close out the preseason with a matchup with the Baltimore Ravens, providing the final opportunity for players on the roster bubble to make an impact.
Green Bay is in its road uniforms, but not the new all-white jerseys. This is their traditional road uniform. But why?
Heat could be the reason for Packers wearing white jerseys vs. Ravens
The best possible explanation is heat. NFL teams often opt to use their road jerseys at home when the temperatures are high. It's not a typical problem in Green Bay, but today, it is around 79 degrees and increasing.
"Maybe because of the heat? I'm not sure," said Mike Spofford of Packers.com in a pregame live chat. "They wore their greens in both road games this month, based on the home teams choosing white. I guess they're following the preseason trend."
It's a good point. The Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos opted to wear their road jerseys in the Packers' previous two preseason games, forcing the Packers to wear their green and gold colors. They finally get to wear their road jerseys in their only home game.
As the home team today, the Packers get to choose.
Outside of its recent color rush uniforms, Green Bay rarely wears white at home. The team will debut its all-white alternate against the Houston Texans in Week 7.
Lambeau Field is known for its frozen temperatures late in the season, so fans can enjoy a rare hot day to watch Packers football.
