The Green Bay Packers were always going to hit a point where they could no longer afford to pay some of their most talented players. When a young roster comes together as it has in Green Bay, it's always on a timeline. They accelerated that timeline with aggressive moves like the Micah Parsons trade, but fans could see the team's financial flexibility lessening long before the start of this offseason.

Wide receiver Romeo Doubs may become one of the first casualties of the team's limited wiggle room. He's set to become a free agent this offseason, and the Packers may not be able to beat out other bids on the open market.

In a recent article, PFF named the San Francisco 49ers as the ideal landing spot for Doubs. It may be a good fit for the player, but Packers fans will be hoping he winds up elsewhere.

Packers better hope Romeo Doubs doesn't land with the 49ers

PFF's Nathan Jahnke recently listed the ideal landing spot for 15 of the NFL's top upcoming free agents, from a fantasy football perspective. After naming the 49ers as the perfect fit for Doubs, he said, "The 49ers will need an X receiver next season if Jennings doesn't re-sign. Jennings has spent most of the last two seasons as their X receiver, as Brandon Aiyuk played the X position before that. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur spent most of 2008-2016 as an assistant under 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan with three different franchises, so Doubs would be a strong schematic fit with the 49ers offense."

The fit certainly makes sense. San Francisco should be desperate for help at the receiver position this offseason, and Doubs could slot perfectly into Shanahan's system.

But there aren't many outcomes Packers fans would hate more than seeing one of their top offensive skill players join an NFC rival. Even with an already limited group of receivers and countless injuries in 2025, the 49ers won a playoff game. With a fully healthy roster, they may have made it all the way to the Super Bowl. If they're able to add a receiver with Doubs' talent, they could become the biggest threat in the NFC, potentially challenging the Packers in their quest for a title.

Doubs' exit from Green Bay may be inevitable at this point, but fans won't want to see him in a different uniform in the NFC playoffs.
