Proposed trade could give Packers the RB addition they desperately need

The Green Bay Packers enter the season with uncertainty at running back, and it would make sense to add a veteran before training camp.

Justin Carter of FanSided proposed a trade that would be a no-brainer of a deal for Green Bay, as he has the Packers sending a fifth-round draft pick to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for Alvin Kamara.

"A fully healthy Kamara could be a bounce-back candidate in 2026, and he'd give Jordan Love a true receiving threat out of the backfield that Green Bay has been missing in recent years," Carter wrote.

"Just finding ways to get him in space as a receiver out of the backfield (or even out of the slot) would add an additional dimension to this Green Bay offense, and it would cost them basically nothing. Is there a good chance this trade ends up a bust, or at least inconsequential? Sure, but you don't win Super Bowls without risks, and Brian Gutekunst and Co. need to take a risk here to improve an offense that is good but not quite elite."

This Alvin Kamara trade idea might be exactly what Packers need at RB

It's worth noting that Carter didn't touch on Josh Jacobs' legal troubles and merely zeroed in on the fact that Kamara could be a nice receiving target for Jordan Love. That's definitely another reason to like what this trade could offer, but if Jacobs has to miss an extended period of time, Kamara could be the true RB1 the Packers would desperately need in his absence.

Behind Jacobs on the depth chart are MarShawn Lloyd and Chris Brooks, neither of whom has proven they're solid backups yet. Lloyd needs to stay healthy after missing all but one game over the past two seasons.

Kamara isn't the same lethal threat he once was a few years ago, but, despite entering his age-31 season, he has proven in recent years that he has plenty left in the tank.

Just two seasons ago, Kamara rushed for 950 yards and six touchdowns and finished the year with nearly 1,500 scrimmage yards. He'd be a dangerous addition to this Packers offense, that's for sure.

As for why the Saints would be willing to move on from Kamara, that one's simple. New Orleans signed Travis Etienne in free agency and he'll be their new RB1. Kamara might be a legend in the Big Easy, but he's an expendable legend now, and a team like the Packers should be chomping at the bit to get him in one of their uniforms.

If all it takes is a fifth-round pick to do so, that feels like an absolute steal. This would be a no-brainer decision for Green Bay.
