Realistic Packers wide receiver targets who meet Josh Jacobs' demands

The Packers have options.

Well, well, well, Josh Jacobs woke up and decided to cause chaos.

He spoke honestly about the Green Bay Packers' wide receiver situation, noting that they need to add a reliable target for Jordan Love this offseason. While praising his current teammates, Jacobs said they must find a proven wide receiver.

Again, he spoke about the potential of the receivers already on the team, but his comments might not go down too well with his teammates. Dontayion Wicks didn't appreciate it, but you know what? Some tough love is what this group needs. Wicks can become a top wide receiver, but he needs to catch the ball more consistently.

Jacobs isn't wrong. Adding a proven veteran receiver to this group could elevate everyone, including the young pass-catchers already on the team.

Christian Watson is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a significant knee injury in Week 18. The Packers may search for a long-term answer in the draft, but they could explore their options to find a veteran leader for the wide receiver room.

Jacobs wants a proven pass-catcher? Who fits the bill?

Three proven wide receivers Packers should target following Josh Jacobs' comments

Davante Adams

A few things must happen for a Davante Adams reunion to have any chance to get off the ground. The good news? They likely will. The New York Jets probably won't bring back Aaron Rodgers, which means they probably will release Adams to create almost $30 million in cap space. Adams probably will want to land on a Super Bowl contender.

The stars must align, but Adams has dropped far too many hints to rule it out completely.

Everyone would win. The Packers will likely only consider it if they can sign the Pro Bowler to a team-friendly deal, but Adams will still earn plenty of money from his Jets contract. Green Bay is among the top landing spots for Adams to add a Super Bowl ring to his glittering resume.

Adams would give the Packers the go-to, reliable target their offense is crying out for, and that, in turn, would take pressure off Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Wicks.

It makes sense for Adams. It makes sense for the Packers. Please, Jets, do your part.

DK Metcalf

Brian Gutekunst could truly back up his "urgency" comments by trading for DK Metcalf. Gutekunst isn't afraid to move up in the draft or spend big on free agents, but he rarely takes the trade-premium-picks-for-a-veteran path. And by rarely, I mean never.

It could, however, become more feasible than it might initially seem. Metcalf enters a contract year in 2025, and the Seattle Seahawks face significant cap issues this spring. Trading for Metcalf could complete the Packers' offensive puzzle, giving them a WR1 who can take the bulk of the target share while providing the big-play ability that's missing without Watson in the lineup.

Jacobs wants a proven wide receiver. How about 6,324 yards and 48 touchdowns across six seasons?

Chris Godwin

This is the least likely of the three, but the Packers may consider making a move for Chris Godwin.

The concerns? Godwin suffered a season-ending ankle injury and turns 29 this month. That's potentially enough reason to pause, especially if other teams are willing to hand him top-of-the-market money.

That said, if Godwin is fully healthy and expected to return in time for training camp, he could solve the Packers' wide receiver problem.

The former Pro Bowler is the definition of a proven wide receiver who could provide stability in the passing game. Packers receivers couldn't stop dropping the football this season. Per Pro Football Focus, Godwin has fewer drops (9) in the past three seasons than Jayden Reed in 2024 (10).

Godwin has three 1,000-yard seasons to his name and was on pace for a career-best 1,398 yards and 12 touchdowns before getting hurt in 2024.
