Romeo Doubs might not be the only Packers WR leaving this week

Romeo Doubs' time with the Green Bay Packers is almost certainly about to end, but he may not be the only wide receiver to leave town.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler dropped some intel ahead of free agency, including some notable updates for the Packers. First, that Doubs "plans to hit the market." That much, we expected. But Fowler also discussed the possibility of a Dontayvion Wicks trade.

While providing an update on A.J. Brown's uncertain future with the Philadelphia Eagles, Fowler noted that Wicks, and even Jayden Reed, have drawn interest from other teams.

"Baltimore's Rashod Bateman, Los Angeles' Quentin Johnston and Green Bay's Dontayvion Wicks have come up in my talks. Teams have interest in Green Bay's Jayden Reed, but I don't sense the Packers would trade him at this point," Fowler reports.

Dontayvion Wicks is a potential trade chip for the Packers as free agency opens

Doubs is one of the best receivers available in free agency, so his potential departure isn't surprising, but Wicks being a trade candidate is a new one.

Fowler's wording is particularly fascinating. It sounds like teams have shown interest in Reed, but the Packers have shut that down. He didn't say the same about Wicks, though, which raises an interesting possibility.

Wicks hasn't solidified his spot as one of the Packers' top receivers despite showing sky-high potential throughout his tenure. With only a year remaining on his rookie deal, it's feasible that Green Bay could look to cash in now and acquire draft capital.

The Packers have invested in their receiving room. Just last year, they used a first-round pick on Matthew Golden, a third-rounder on Savion Williams, and handed Christian Watson a one-year extension (with a new multi-year deal likely on the way this offseason). They also have Reed, while tight end Tucker Kraft is one of Jordan Love's top targets.

Even with Doubs expected to depart, Wicks may still see limited opportunities in Matt LaFleur's offense.

That said, letting two talented receivers walk out the door would come with its share of risks.

Doubs led the Packers in receiving last season and was quietly the most reliable piece of the Packers' passing game. Golden showed breakout potential, particularly in the playoffs, and his opportunities will increase as he replaces Doubs. But Wicks offers quality depth, with the route-running skill to win against man coverage. He's battled drops throughout his career but made far fewer mistakes in 2025.

As we've seen two years in a row, injuries at receiver can quickly derail the passing game. If the Packers lose Doubs in free agency and trade Wicks, they may need to bring in another pass-catcher this offseason.

Watson is a rising star when healthy but has battled injuries. Golden should see increased snaps, while Reed remains a reliable starter in the slot (again, when healthy). Williams only played sporadically on offense as a rookie, while Kraft is recovering from a torn ACL. That's the concern.

But if a team is willing to part ways with draft capital in a deal for Wicks, the Packers should listen. Green Bay doesn't have a first-rounder, so acquiring additional picks on Days 2 or 3 could help the team restock at positions of need.

Stay tuned.
