Just five regular-season games remain in the 2025 season for the Green Bay Packers. The Packers haven't quite guaranteed their spot in the playoffs just yet, but when (or if) they do, it’s the final stretch of a promising season nonetheless.
By proxy, that means some players on this roster are playing their final few games in a Packers jersey. Considering the youth of the roster and the maneuverability of the front office as a result, not everyone is so painfully obvious. But when it comes to left tackle Rasheed Walker, Packers fans ought to be ready to see him in new threads next season.
Walker's contract is up after the season, and with Jordan Morgan being his heir apparent as a 2024 first-round pick, it's becoming clear that Walker will thrive on the open market.
With free agency approaching, Rasheed Walker may be finishing his last snaps for the Packers
I wrote about Walker being in line for a massive payday in free agency recently, and that remains the driving force. Walker hasn't been great, having allowed the most sacks and pressures on Green Bay's turbulent offensive line. Still, he's been far from awful, and as Dan Moore proved last offseason, even the most average of left tackles can ink a massive contract on the open market.
Of course, the Packers will have other contracts keeping their attention, especially Quay Walker. Even if Green Bay wants to give Rasheed Walker an offer, it's hard to imagine another team with cash to spend won't be able to outbid them.
Thankfully, the Packers have a contingency plan for one of the most crucial positions in the sport. As mentioned, Jordan Morgan's future is at left tackle. He struggled at right guard this season, recently earning a spot on the bench as a result, which certainly doesn't cool Packers fans' concerns about the future of the position.
Still, it's never as easy as some players make it seem to play alternate positions on the offensive line, especially at the NFL level. Morgan will get his shot at left tackle next season, and hopefully, he'll be ready for the opportunity.
If it does prove to be Walker's final stretch with Green Bay, his growth with the franchise shouldn't be understated. Walker was a seventh-round pick in 2022. In 2023, he stepped up after David Bakhtiari was lost for the season to a knee injury. He played well enough for Green Bay to feel comfortable moving on from one of the best left tackles in franchise history.
Walker has since started 43 of 44 games, playing 99 percent of the Packers' offensive snaps over the past two seasons. If it is indeed his final stretch with the Packers, it was a strong one for a player put in his position. When he gets that massive payday this offseason, whether from Green Bay or elsewhere, for the most part, it will have been well-earned.
