This Packers cut theory sounds like nothing more than a Bears fantasy

Yeah, good luck with that.

Chicago Bears, you're not fooling anyone. We know that somehow, some way, you're behind this. Just because you put something out into the universe, you know, like taking the NFC North and never giving it back, it doesn't mean it will happen.

Many Green Bay Packers players have faced uncertain futures this offseason, including Romeo Doubs.

He is a prime trade candidate after the Packers drafted Matthew Golden and Savion Williams. But to outright release him? That's a step too far.

Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox named the "best" player each team could cut — it's Doubs for the Packers.

"The Green Bay Packers are highly likely to part with one of their young veteran receivers after using two of their first three draft selections on Matthew Golden and Savion Williams," writes Knox. "Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs, who are both entering a contract year, are the two most logical candidates."

We're in alignment here. The Packers should explore their options with Doubs, and it even felt like they quietly sent him a message with their recent assurances to Jayden Reed.

Packers should consider trading Romeo Doubs, but releasing him makes zero sense

There's a but. Trading Doubs is logical and could benefit everyone, but releasing him would make zero sense. Why? What's the reason? An overcrowded wide receiver room isn't grounds for allowing a rival to steal a talented player for free.

OK, maybe the Bears weren't behind the prediction, but it sure feels like something Ryan Poles would dream about. After all, he is probably still haunted by Doubs' two-touchdown performance against Chicago in the first game of the Jordan Love era.

Knox is correct about needing to clear space in the wide receiver room.

The Packers entered the offseason with a top four of Doubs, Reed, Watson, and Dontayvion Wicks. Let's not forget that the offense's spread-the-ball-around nature reportedly played a part in Doubs' one-game suspension last season.

That was before the team added Golden, Williams, and Mecole Hardman.

Something has to give. That could lead to Doubs' departure, but only a trade makes sense, not an outright cut. Releasing Doubs is so unlikely that it's best reserved for Bears fan fiction.
