The Green Bay Packers are testing the notion that there is no such thing as having too many good wide receivers in 2025, as they added to an already deep wide receiver room in the 2025 NFL Draft by using Top 100 picks on Matthew Golden and Savion Williams. Brian Gutekunst might not be done adding players.
With Christian Watson still working his way back from an injury and Jayden Reed on the mend after his broken collarbone, trading for a receiver that can help keep Jordan Love performing like one of the best quarterbacks in the game might be a better use of what limited draft capital they have.
Matt Verderame of Sports Illustrated has the Packers parting with yet another top pick, this time to bring Chris Olave over from the New Orleans Saints. If this comes to fruition, Olave would instantly become the most talented pass-catcher Green Bay has to offer.
This Packers-Saints trade brings Chris Olave to Green Bay
Olave has caught 26 passes this season, but for just 185 yards and one touchdown. With Spencer Rattler at quarterback and a so-so offensive line, new coach Kellen Moore is trying his best to get Olave the ball as quickly as possible. However, this isn't maximizing his skillset.
Coming to Green Bay would put Olave in a more vertical offense that can take advantage of his downfield playmaking skills. With Matt LaFleur's creativity boosting him and the pass-catching talent around him, Olave will no longer be forced to attract 100% of the secondary's attention in any given game.

Olave would need a new contract, as he is a free agent after the 2026 season. With many expecting the Packers to let Romeo Doubs go in the name of financial flexibility, the validity of adding a new wide receiver might strike some as an odd allocation of resources.
However, it is not a stretch to say that Olave would have the highest ceiling of any receiver on the Green Bay roster. Picking him up for a second-round pick that is likely going to be at the back-end of the second round could be an amazing bit of business from Brian Gutekunst.
Olave is not a lock to get an extension on a New Orleans team that is trying to dig itself out of a comically deep financial hole, which could make a trade even more feasible for Green Bay in the short term.
