The NFL may be keeping Tim Boyle employed as part of a morale-boosting social experiment to encourage fans to follow their dreams of playing in the pros, because the former Green Bay Packers quarterback is now on his eighth professional NFL team at age 30 despite no success at this level.

It would be one thing if Boyle's presence on an NFL roster could be explained solely by his kinship with Aaron Rodgers. However, Boyle has now made it to eight different NFL teams, five of which have no connection to Rodgers or Packers coach Luke Getsy. In order, Boyle has played for the Packers, Lions, Bears, Jets, Texans, Dolphins, Giants, and (most recently) the Tennessee Titans.

After Titans quarterback Will Levis was ruled out for the 2025 season, Boyle found himself in the middle of a genuine quarterback competition with veteran Brandon Allen for the backup job behind No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward.

Boyle completed just four of his 13 passes for 24 yards in a preseason duel against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, all while getting intercepted twice. One of those turnovers was a pick-six. Packers fans, along with fans of any team that has employed Boyle, can only shake their head at him getting another chance.

Packers fans can only laugh at Tim Boyle getting intercepted twice

Boyle's stats have been put out there in the past, but they are so absurd that they bear repeating. Boyle threw just one touchdown against 13 interceptions in three years at UConn. A transfer to FCS school Eastern Kentucky didn't produce much in the way of success, as he went 4-7 with 11 touchdowns and 13 picks. For those keeping score at home, that's 12 touchdowns against 26 picks.

Through a miracle of networking, Boyle latched on with the Packers, barely playing over a three-season stint. In seldom-used backup roles with the Lions and Bears, Boyle tallied three touchdowns and eight interceptions.

A nightmare year with the Jets saw him add one more TD and four more INTs to the ledger, along with one score and one pick between his Dolphins and Giants tenure.

Since the start of his college days, Boyle has thrown 17 touchdown passes and 39 interceptions. Rather than sign his apparently savant-like brain as a coach, teams keep giving him chances to play quarterback despite a mountain of evidence suggesting that he is utterly incapable of doing so.

Certain jobs in the NFL are more about who you know than what you know, and Boyle is showing that good elbow-rubbing skills can get you guaranteed QB3 roles for life.
