Updated NFL playoff picture for Packers heading into Week 15
By Luke Norris
With a 34-31 loss to the Detroit Lions this past Thursday night, the Green Bay Packers have essentially been eliminated from the NFC North race.
With the loss, the Packers dropped to 9-4 on the year and are now three games back of the Lions (12-1) with four weeks to play. And having been swept by Detroit this year, Green Bay would obviously lose the head-to-head tiebreaker. The Minnesota Vikings getting a sixth straight win and improving to 11-2 with a victory over the Atlanta Falcons certainly didn't help matters.
As such, unless they can get a minor miracle, Matt LaFleur & Co. will have to wait at least one more season to win the division for the first time since 2021.
Nevertheless, the Packers are still in solid shape as it pertains to the NFC wild-card race. Despite sitting two games back of the Vikings, who would be the No. 5 seed if the postseason started tomorrow, Green Bay maintained its position in the No. 6 slot, where this team has sat for several weeks now.
Let's have a look at where the Packers stand heading into their Week 15 matchup with the NFC West-leading Seattle Seahawks.
Updated NFC playoff picture and standings heading into Week 15
Here's what the NFC side of the bracket looks like heading into Week 15.
- Detroit Lions (12-1, 1st NFC North)
- Philadelphia Eagles (11-2, 1st NFC East)
- Seattle Seahawks (8-5, 1st NFC West)
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-6, 1st NFC South)
- Minnesota Vikings (11-2, 2nd NFC North)
- Green Bay Packers (9-4, 3rd NFC North)
- Washington Commanders (8-5, 2nd NFC East)
Despite the loss to the Lions, the Packers are still a game up on the Washington Commanders, who were on a bye this past week and enter their Week 15 contest with the New Orleans Saints at 8-5.
Green Bay also sits two games ahead of the Los Angeles Rams (No. 8, 7-6) and has a three-game advantage on the Atlanta Falcons (No. 9, 6-7), Arizona Cardinals (No. 10, 6-7), and San Francisco 49ers (No. 11, 6-7).
So, again, the Packers are in good shape as they travel to the Pacific Northwest to take on the red-hot Seahawks. who've won four straight, on Sunday Night Football, which marks Green Bay's third consecutive prime-time game.
They're set for a fourth straight in Week 16 as the Saints visit Lambeau Field for a date on Monday Night Football.
