Why Packers fans shouldn't panic about the latest quarterback move

It was expected.

Jordan Love's status was among the biggest storylines ahead of the Green Bay Packers' playoff showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Typically, the Packers enter a game with two active quarterbacks and only promote third-string Sean Clifford to the gameday roster if they are dealing with an injury. Packers fans could be alarmed to hear Tom Pelissero's report for NFL Network that the Packers have signed Clifford to their active roster ahead of Sunday's game.

What does this mean for Love's status? Is there concern that Malik Willis won't play?

The short answer is no. There's no need to have any concern.

Sean Clifford's elevation is a smart move by Packers ahead of NFC Wild Card Round

Firstly, let's address Love's status for the Wild Card Round. After being limited in practice on Wednesday, Love logged consecutive full sessions and is no longer on the injury report. He is good to go.

Love suffered an elbow injury in his throwing arm last week, but he has recovered and will play against the Eagles.

The same is true for Willis, who got hit in the thumb last week. Like Love, he was limited on Wednesday but practiced in full the next two days. He, too, is no longer on the injury report.

But if we can learn one thing from last week's loss to the Chicago Bears, it's that quarterback depth is a good thing. That game proved how quickly both quarterbacks can suffer injuries, and the Packers want to ensure they have insurance at the most important position.

The other key thing to point out is that Green Bay has an available roster spot. Christian Watson has remained on the active roster this week despite suffering a season-ending injury, and the Packers can move him to injured reserve when they need to.

Promoting Clifford to the active roster is an easy decision. There's no risk attached, and it doesn't mean there's any concern over Love or Willis playing. It gives the team added insurance at a key position ahead of the biggest game of the season.
