Wild Tyreek Hill-Packers trade proposal receives a negative grade

The Packers shouldn't have any interest.

Everyone knows the Green Bay Packers need a wide receiver. Even the Packers can't hide it.

The team struck out in the veteran wide receiver market, missing opportunities to reunite with Davante Adams or trade for DK Metcalf. Outside of Travis Hunter, who could go as early as No. 2 in this month's draft, the rookie class lacks all-world receiving talent.

It's undoubtedly a deep class, and the Packers may take multiple swings, but few have All-Pro potential.

Enter Tyreek Hill?

The five-time first-team All-Pro could land a draft-day trade. His situation with the Miami Dolphins is bizarre, to say the least. Hill made it clear that he wanted out of Miami after the team's early elimination, but despite walking back those comments and apologizing, he has taken seemingly every opportunity to troll Dolphins fans.

Hill has the game-changing speed the Packers lack without Christian Watson, and his resume speaks for itself. Even in a down year where he battled a significant wrist injury and poor quarterback play without Tua Tagovailoa, Hill still caught 81 passes for 959 yards and six touchdowns — better numbers than any Packers receiver.

Should Brian Gutekunst make a move? Not so fast.

Bleacher Report pitches a blockbuster Packers trade for Tyreek Hill

Moe Moton of Bleacher Report pitched five draft-day trades for Hill. One sent the star wide receiver to Green Bay, with Romeo Doubs going the other way. Here's the trade Moton proposed:

Grade: D

Despite the negative grade, there is a lot to like about the proposal. It would undoubtedly improve the Packers' receiving corps and give Jordan Love a game-changing target, all while not burning a draft pick in the opening two rounds.

It also makes sense to include Doubs. Remember that Green Bay suspended Doubs for one game last season due to reported frustration over his role.

The Packers would effectively trade Doubs for a fifth-rounder while sending a third and future fourth to Miami for Hill. That's reasonable.

The problem is Hill's contract.

According to Over The Cap's calculator, the Packers would take on a modest $11.9 million cap hit this year, but it would rise to $36 million in 2026, Hill's age-32 season. The Packers shouldn't expect the Dolphins to eat more of his salary than they have to, as they would already take on a significant dead cap charge by trading him.

The Packers would have to bank on Hill getting back to his All-Pro best and providing at least two years of elite wide receiver play. It's a risk, and not the type of move they typically make.

Davante Adams would've made more sense. The Packers passed on a reunion. While trading for Hill sounds like a good idea, the reality would be far too risky (and expensive) to justify.
