Marcus Smith, Outside Linebacker, Louisville
Smith is a big question mark to me. Not in a bad way. He is consistently projected to be selected outside of the first two rounds and I cannot figure out why. The man is everything you want in an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense. He shows amazing athleticism and quickness for weighing around 260 pounds. He is a tenacious pass rusher who actually plays the run really nicely as well. He holds the edge exceptionally well in the tape I watched. Even more, he is known for being adequate when Louisville needed him to drop into coverage.
Combine Watch: Smith is a former quarterback. He could impress in his interviews with his knowledge of the game. He plays fast, but scouts think he will time slower. If he can run a 4.7 in the 40 and show good agility in drills he could shoot up draft boards. Packers fans might want to hope that he has a mediocre combine. If the Packers miss out on a player like BYU’s Kyle Van Noy, Smith could bring a similar skill set one round later.
