Packer fans had a giant smile on their face when Wisconsin native and former Wisconsin Badger Jared Abbrederis was selected in the fifth round of the 2014 draft.

Abbrederis became the first Badger selected by the Packers since 2001, and had won the fans over before he had even caught a ball.

But catching footballs was something he didn’t get to enjoy much of in 2014 as he suffered a season-ending injury in training camp, tearing his ACL.

“It’s not what I wanted, obviously. I was excited to be here in camp, I had a couple good first days, excited for the season. Obviously a bump in the road but I’ll come back stronger, and I’m excited to get back and get back with the team,” Abbrederis said.

Abbrederis has a lot of upside, and could fit in well initially as the fourth receiver should Cobb re-sign, and especially if Jarrett Boykin, who had a disappointing 2014 season, doesn’t return.

He can also be featured as a punt or kick returner. Micah Hyde and Cobb performed well returning punts in 2014, but the kick return game was disappointing from Green Bay and Abbrederis could make a case to receive kickoffs in 2015.

Abbrederis could be a solid contributor for the team in 2015, and I for one can’t wait to see the reception he gets at Lambeau Field when he scores his first touchdown.
