Johnson is an athletic corner

Kevin Johnson had an impressive showing at the NFL Scouting Combine in February.

According to ESPN, he finished the 20-yard shuttle drill in 3.89 seconds (second-best among cornerbacks) and the three-cone drill in 6.79 (fourth).

He recorded a 41.5-inch vertical jump (third) and 130-inch broad jump (third).

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com likened Johnson to Sam Shields. It’s possible that he could be lining up next to Shields for the Packers next season.

Johnson has great athleticism and height for the position (6-0), but could do with bulking up a little. He has the ability to slow down receivers and disrupt routes; this could make him a potential starter right away.

For Wake Forest, it was often his job to cover the opposing team’s premier wide receiver and he found success.

Johnson is only 188 pounds and will need to add weight in the NFL. What’s promising is that he is already a strong tackler who can help out in the run game. With some added weight, he could improve that area even more.

On deep routes, Johnson has the ability to turn and accelerate well. He is quick enough to keep up and has the athleticism to make a play.

Zierlein went on to add:

"“Johnson is a three-year starting cornerback who showed great improvement in man coverage from 2013 to 2014. While he lacks desired weight at the position, his cover skills, athleticism and competitiveness give him a shot to come in and start right away. Johnson can play gunner on special teams.”"
