Round 4: DE Chris Jones, Mississippi State

There are plenty of talented defensive linemen in this draft, and the Packers could dip into the pool of interior defenders by selecting Chris Jones with the first of their three fourth round picks (the Packers are expected to receive two compensatory picks in the fourth).

Jones has the potential to become be one of the best 3-4 defensive ends in this year’s class with the right development. He is a beast of a man at 6-foot-6, 308 pounds, but has quickness off the snap and plays with power.

An area that requires work is his pad level. Too often it gets elevated which allows linemen to get underneath his pads and slow his momentum. But Jones has the tools to become a key piece along any defensive line, and the Packers could get a steal in the fourth round.

Jones is low on many draft analysts boards. Matt Miller of Bleacher Report had him coming off the board with 111th overall pick (Oakland) in his post-Super Bowl mock, which is 11 behind the Packers’ first fourth round pick at 122. The general consensus is that Jones will be taken on day three in either the fourth or fifth round.
