Green Bay Packers: Ten free agents worth looking at
TE Dwayne Allen, Indianapolis Colts
Dwayne Allen isn’t a household name, but he has the potential to become a reliable pass-catching tight end in the right offense. Allen was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft, but has yet to live up to expectations.
After an encouraging 521-yard, three-touchdown season as a rookie, Allen has failed to surpass 395 receiving yards since. But that’s not to say he can’t flourish at a new team. The Packers would be able to utilize his pass-catching ability, something they have lacked from their tight ends.
Kyle Engman of our friends at NFL Spin Zone believes the Packers should target Allen:
"“It wouldn’t be out of the picture to offer Allen anywhere between $5-7 million per year. Allen has a very high ceiling if he reaches the right offense. If he was the feature tight end in an offense such as the Packers, he could very well reprise the role Jermichael Finley once had. One that could potentially put Allen into a Pro Bowl.”"
There are a number of talented tight ends set to hit free agency. Without many options in the draft, Allen could be an affordable option for the Pack.
