ATARI BIGBY (SAFETY)

Back in his day, Bigby was easy to spot for both his long flowing braids and for the way he inflicted punishment on helpless opponents during his six-year stay in Packers News.

The Jamaica-born defender was a product of a bye-gone era in the NFL when the officials weren’t as vigilant about penalizing players who had a penchant for administering kill shots to an adversary’s vulnerable body parts, including the head and neck areas.

The strong safety’s physical brand of play wasn’t only fun to watch, but it often provided the defense with a jolt of energy. His notable accomplishments include being named the NFC defensive player of the month in December 2008 after recording four interceptions in four weeks and playing in Super Bowl XLV.

The downside to Bigby’s rough-and-tumble ways was that he would end up hurting himself as much as he brought pain to others.

The Packers eventually drafted Bigby’s successor by taking Morgan Burnett in the fourth round in 2010.

The parting of ways between the head hunter about a year later was termed a “business decision” by Mike McCarthy.
