Special teams (3)

Kicker: Mason Crosby

Punter: Peter Mortell

Long snapper: Rick Lovato

Punt returner: Micah Hyde

Kick returner: Trevor Davis

Now the NFL’s third-highest paid kicker, Mason Crosby is worth every penny. Crosby went an impressive 24-of-28 (85.7 percent) on field goal attempts last season, and was one of only six kickers to convert every extra-point try.

Tim Masthay’s position as the Packers punter in under severe threat by Peter Mortell. Mortell impressed during Green Bay’s preseason victory over Cleveland, although he must establish more consistency in practice. The Green Bay native outplayed Masthay in the preseason opener, averaging 44 yards from his three punts to Masthay’s 39.7. Mortell hit a 62-yard bomb.

It’s too close to call, but Mortell gets the edge.

Longtime Packer Brett Goode is still recovering from a surgically repaired knee, opening the door for Rick Lovato to grab the roster spot.

With Jeff Janis potentially heading for injured reserve, Micah Hyde takes over punt duties with rookie wideout Trevor Davis returning kicks. Special teams is Davis’ best shot of making the roster as a rookie, with opportunities expected to be limited on offense.
