TE – Richard Rodgers

Week 3 Statistics:

Rodgers – 2 catch, 9 receiving yards, 1 TD; 6.90 fantasy points

Slowly, the Packers have been trying to incorporate usage of tight ends in their passing game more, but hopes for it to be a consistent piece of the plan took a hit with the injury to Jared Cook.

With Cook out for awhile, the team has decided to stick with Richard “The Other” Rodgers and Justin Perillo (please, temper your cheers of excitement).

With Cook and Rodgers, this could have been a decent 1-2 punch worthy of 6-8 targets a game in the right matchups; without Cook though, this drops exclusively to the Rodgers show, and seeing more than 4 targets would be surprising in any game.

Rodgers has proved time and again he’ll catch a good portion of balls thrown his way, but I’m not sure I remember a single broken tackle made by him in his career to this point. Put that with a relative lack of speed and he’s not going to give a team much beyond a short-yardage and red-zone target.

If Aaron is able to spread the ball around in this matchup, we could see Richard garner a few looks, but his production fantasy-wide is tied exclusively to his ability to grab a TD.

With holes across the Giants’ passing defense but a defensive line capable of breaking down an offensive line from multiple spots, a quick outlet over the middle could be massively helpful, especially near the end zone.

Look for Rodgers to get a couple looks in that area; if he does, he probably scores (as long as he’s already in the end zone).

Week 5 Predictions:

Rodgers – 2 catch, 15 receiving yards, 1 TD; 7.50 fantasy points

Verdicts: Short Yardage Threat (Rodgers)
