Inside linebackers
By this point it’s obvious Thompson doesn’t value the inside linebacker position. He’s rolled out a pair of fourth-round selections at the position but has been unwilling to spend much more.
If he decides to add a veteran presence to the middle of the defense, keeping Clay Matthews outside in the process, here’s some names to keep in mind.
Dont’a Hightower: The fact Hightower is still available is a surprise. Initially a franchise tag candidate by the Patriots, Hightower will make a positive impact no matter where he ends up.
Maybe his injury history is a factor in negotiations. But make no mistake, when healthy Hightower can make a difference in Green Bay.
Zach Brown: A Pro Bowler and second-team All-Pro in 2016, Brown put together an excellent campaign but is yet to be rewarded with a new deal. At 27-years-old, he should be entering his prime.
DeAndre Levy: Levy was once considered one of the best linebackers in the game, but two injury-hit seasons meant he barely took to the field. This will undoubtedly lower his asking price, and if he can be signed on a short-term, cheap deal, he’s worth the gamble.
