Elvis Dumervil, OLB

Yes, the Packers need to get younger and faster on defense. But that doesn’t mean they should completely dismiss the idea of adding a veteran.

Technically this move would help the defense get younger, if you consider him a replacement for the 37-year-old Julius Peppers.

Elvis Dumervil might not be the player he once was. After posting 17 sacks in 2014, he’s tallied just nine in the two seasons since. At 33-years-old, he likely never will make a sixth Pro Bowl appearance. But that doesn’t mean he can’t help Packers.

Dom Capers’ defense needs a veteran presence who can chip in with a handful of sacks, just like Peppers did last year. Dumervil would also provide a wealth of knowledge for the young pass rushers on the team like Nick Perry, Kyler Fackrell and Jayrone Elliott. Dwight Freeney helped Vic Beasley’s development in his one-year stay with the NFC-winning Falcons.

Dumervil can make a similar impact in Green Bay, and he’ll come at an affordable price.
