Round 1: Michael Thomas, WR, Saints

Best player available: Michael Thomas, WR, Saints
Best player at the same position: Chris Jones, DL, Chiefs

Originally I wanted to go with Jones out of respect for Ted and his pick but Thomas makes too much sense.

First, wide receiver is arguably the more important position to address. Although the Packers have talent there, they will need to see continued improvement from Adams and Allison before we can declare that position sound. Furthermore, Jordy Nelson will be 32-years-old at the start of the season and contemplated retirement not too long ago.

Beyond that, not only was Thomas the best player available, he was one of the best receivers in the NFL in 2016. In his first year, Thomas caught 92 passes for 1,137 yards and nine touchdowns. Even more impressive, Pro Football Focus rated him as a top-10 wide receiver in 2016. In other words, he’s not just a good option for depth, Thomas could have very well been the top receiver in Green Bay in 2016.
