Ralph Mancini: Packers select Quincy Wilson, CB, Florida

The Packers could very well trade down when their turn comes up at the 29th slot, but since they have multiple needs, Ted Thompson and company won’t be choosy if their top priority doesn’t fall to them.

In my ideal scenario, the Packers bring home either Swiss Army knife linebacker Haason Reddick or the smooth-as-silk coverage cover corner Tre’Davious White.

Unfortunately, both players are highly unlikely to fall that far especially with so many teams looking to shore up the positions played by the two defenders.

Therefore, the more realistic option becomes Quincy Wilson being there for the taking.

The former Florida Gator would bring a missing element of toughness to the cornerback position with his ability to use his sturdy 6-foot, 209-pound frame to jab receivers off the line of scrimmage and give them very little room to adjust to oncoming passes.

What’s more, Wilson offers an anticipatory prowess to jump routes while possessing the aggressive nature to lay the boom on ball carriers in the open field.

What will it take for this to happen? A lot will depend on what direction the Chiefs go in at the 27th spot since they are also in the market for added firepower at cornerback.

However, word is they are also looking to bring in Alex Smith’s eventual successor at quarterback. If Patrick Mahomes happens to be available, don’t be surprised to see GM John Dorsey pounce on the former Texas Tech signal caller and pave the way for Wilson to become a Packer.
