Packers: Damarious Randall undergoing minor hand surgery, per report
Green Bay Packers cornerback Damarious Randall needs minor surgery on his hand.
After an injury-hit 2016, Randall bounced back this year, particularly in the second half of the season. But he was dealing with a hand injury.
The report came from Michael Cohen of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
According to Cohen, Randall played through the issue all the year.
Despite the injury, Randall still led the Packers in interceptions with four. He now has 10 picks in three years.
Randall’s career in Green Bay has so far brought mixed reviews.
He flashed potential as a rookie in 2015, but made a handful of errors that held him back. Those issues became more evident in 2016, but it’s worth noting Randall struggled to stay healthy all year.
Not only did he require midseason groin surgery, but Randall also dealt with knee and foot injuries.

After a slow start this season, Randall bounced back. He had some fine performances, like his coverage of Josh Gordon in Week 14. In Randall’s coverage, Gordon was held to just one catch for nine yards.
The Packers will be hoping Randall can build on this in a new scheme. He will likely have a key role to play in Mike Pettine’s defense next season.
But staying healthy has been problematic for Randall.
He’s yet to complete a full 16-game season, and has missed nine regular season games in three years.
The good news is his hand injury wasn’t serious enough to keep him out any games, and won’t be an issue by the time offseason workouts begin in a few months.
It’s going to be interesting to see how Pettine uses Randall in his scheme. New general manager Brian Gutekunst will likely bring in more cornerback talent either through free agency or the draft.
