15. Derek Carr (Oakland Raiders)

Carr struggled in 2017 compared to his MVP-caliber 2016 season, but I would still say he is one of the 15 best quarterbacks in football.

He has the potential to be in the top-10 on this list once again if he can put together a good year in 2018. That’ll probably depend on how well he works with Jon Gruden, which is still up in the air.

14. Jimmy Garoppolo (San Francisco 49ers)

With Garoppolo, the 49ers have the potential to be one of the most successful teams of the next decade. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he cracks the top-10 of this list next year, especially if he can lead the 49ers on the resurgence that their fans have been waiting for.

Garoppolo is a very smart passer, and I think that trait went a little bit unnoticed last year as he seemed to be under a lot of pressure. But the additions of Mike McGlinchey and Weston Richburg will help fix that.

Garoppolo could be a sleeper MVP candidate if he hits his ceiling this year.

13. Cam Newton (Carolina Panthers)

Newton drastically improved his completion percentage last year, from 52.9 percent in 2016 to 59.1 percent in 2017. I’m excited to see if he can build on that.

Newton has high upside this year, but I could see him struggling a bit as he did lose a great guard in Andrew Norwell in free agency. If Newton can overcome that adversity, he has a good chance to inch closer to what he was in 2015 when he won NFL MVP.

12. Philip Rivers (Los Angeles Chargers)

Rivers is one of the most under-appreciated quarterbacks in the game and it’s a shame that he has been stuck on mediocre rosters for a big part of his career.

There is hope now with the LA Chargers though. The Chargers have four great players on their defense with Joey Bosa, Melvin Ingram, Casey Hayward and Derwin James. This will give him the help on defense that he needs.

I could see the Chargers contending for a playoff spot this year, and they are certainly a sleeper in the AFC West. The Chargers owe a lot of that to Rivers.

11. Jared Goff (Los Angeles Rams)

Goff was one of the most improved players in the NFL last year. He went from having one of the worst seasons of any starting rookie in recent history and looking like a bust in 2016, to leading the Rams to the playoffs and nearly throwing 30 touchdowns in 2017.

Sean McVay and the resurgence of Todd Gurley obviously played a role in this, but Goff is one of the best 15 quarterbacks in football based off talent alone. I am very confident in saying that after watching him last year.

I think there is a good chance the Rams are one of the best teams, if not the best, in football next year. It’ll be really interesting to see if Goff can build on his spectacular 2017 season.

The fact he didn’t make the top-10 this year isn’t an indictment on Goff, but a testament to the incredible quarterback talent in the NFL right now.
